God In Love
Love, once struck upon my thought,
has never wondered with the ape,
nor tended with the breaking smoke
to drift, as to escape.
More than a corpse, she may keep still,
more than a breath, she may make sound,
she may conceal or show her midst,
yet never lost was love I found.
And though I oft' embrace another,
loving daughters just as well as sons,
I keep them each this close beside me;
I hold a million hands at once.
Hence, think not lightly of my love,
nor of your throne upon my breast,
for here are castles, courts, and kingdoms,
worlds and galaxies, no less.
Whatsmore, my golden suckling,
we need not curse, nor cause a fuss,
when both our souls might thus be loved;
as bold, as broad, as blessed!
